Construction on Texas Children’s Hospital North Austin Campus nears finish line

Work is progressing on the upcoming Texas Children’s Hospital North Austin Campus, scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2024. The structure is now enclosed, and interior spaces are taking shape.

Simultaneously, Texas Children’s is actively recruiting physicians and faculty members in anticipation of moving into the building and initiating simulation activities in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Located in Cedar Park about 20 miles north of Austin, the new campus — a state-of-the-art, 365,000-square-foot main hospital and 170,000-square-foot outpatient facility — will cover 21 pediatric specialties and offer care for nearly every conceivable pediatric health issue, including the most complicated and rare cases. The campus will also provide maternal and fetal health care and other women’s services within the same facility.

This hospital is the culmination of the Texas Children’s brand’s expansion in Austin since 2017, starting with the Westgate Urgent Care Center and followed by the addition of a specialty care center and a network of 19 Texas Children’s Pediatrics practices.

The greater Austin area is a priority for health care delivery because, over the last decade, the region’s population has increased exponentially. Such a significant and highly sought-after destination calls for its own world-class pediatric health care. Very soon, families throughout this fast-growing corridor in Central Texas — many of whom have had to travel to Texas Children’s in Houston — will enjoy closer proximity and easier access to comprehensive, integrated, high-quality pediatric care.

“We are committed to providing close-to-home care for even the most complex medical conditions so that we can better serve our patients,” said Bryan Vartabedian, MD, Chief Pediatrics Officer at Texas Children’s Hospital North Austin Campus. “We are excited to bring our 70-year legacy as a leader in pediatric care, nationally and statewide, to Austin. We believe this legacy will bring us forward in elevating the level of care for women and children across Texas.”
