Dr. Catherine M. Gordon appointed new Pediatrician-in-Chief and Chair of Pediatrics

Catherine M. Gordon, MD, MS, has been appointed as the new Pediatrician-in-Chief at Texas Children’s Hospital and Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine. She will join both institutions on Oct. 1.

Dr. Gordon will be one of only three female In-Chiefs at U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll hospitals. Texas Children’s is consistently recognized as a leader in pediatric care, ranking fourth in U.S. News & World Report’s 2020-21 Best Children’s Hospitals survey.

“I have been inspired by the work of the talented teams at Texas Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine, and I am honored to serve as their next Pediatrician-in-Chief and Chair of Pediatrics,” Dr. Gordon said. “I look forward to exciting opportunities ahead as we launch new clinical and research programs that advance care for children and adolescents, as well as initiatives that expand diversity and allow for continued strong community engagement.”

Dr. Gordon currently serves as chief of Adolescent/Young Adult Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital and professor of pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. She earned her medical degree from the University of North Carolina and completed her pediatric residency and fellowships at Boston Children’s. She is board-certified in Adolescent Medicine and Pediatric Endocrinology. She earned a master’s degree in clinical investigation from Harvard.

Funded by the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense and private foundations, Dr. Gordon's research focuses on the influences of nutrition, activity and sex hormones on bone health during childhood and adolescence.
