Dr. Elumalai Appachi named Regional Chair for Children’s Hospital of San Antonio

Elumalai Appachi, MD, professor of pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine, has been appointed Regional Chair of Pediatrics for the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio (CHofSA).

At CHofSA, Baylor physicians provide pediatric care for the children of San Antonio and South Texas. Texas Children’s Hospital provides consulting and clinical expertise.

Dr. Appachi has served as section chief of Critical Care at CHofSA since 2013. He earned his MD at Stanley Medical College, Madras University in India. He completed his pediatric residency at the Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children, Madras. He also completed a pediatric residency and pediatric clinical care fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic.

Board-certified in general pediatrics and pediatric critical care medicine, Dr. Appachi is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

CHofSA, which is owned by CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System, provides care to about 5,000 inpatients, 80,000 emergency department visits and 73,000 outpatient visits annually.
